    May Membership Update

A big welcome to four new members:

    •  Meredith and Patty Hole of Greenwood sailing a Catalina 25.
    • Spike and Mary Selig of Indianapolis sailing a Ghost 13.
    • Fritz and Susy Lay also of Indianapolis and they are sailing a San Juan 21’.
    • Bran and Julie Elmore of Coatsville with several boats:  Starwind 22’ and Catalina 14.2

Two of the above are returning members (Selig & Lay) while the other two are new to the club.  Two (Hole & Lay) wish to be added to the 2016 waiting list for a slip.

The membership booklet is at the printers and will be mailed to your home very soon.   Our goal was for accuracy throughout, but please email membership@ecsail.org with any corrections or changes.  Also email if your IN # is not included in the booklet.  That would mean that we have not yet received this information from you.

More boats going in the water everyday.  It should be a great season.  Our first social event is coming up soon – Mother’s Day Brunch on May 8th at 11:30.   The club provides eggs, bacon, sausage and each member attending provides a covered dish to compliment the brunch menu.

    New Member Orientation scheduled

Welcome to three new members in the month of March. All three have asked to be placed on the wait list for a wet slip. If any member already assigned a slip might wish to sublease, please contact Assistant Harbormaster, Dennis Robertson.

    • Karen and Ken Orndorff of Indianapolis. No boat at present
    • Gordon and Susan Perry of Lebanon, sailing a S2 6.9
    • Steven Gummer of Indianapolis with a Hunter 212

Our first New Member Orientation will be held in the upper shelter house on Sunday, April 17th at 1:00. Come to meet with Christy, learn more about the club and to meet each other.

Spring is rolling right along. Water has been turned on so boat clean-up can begin. ECSC had great work day last Saturday with much accomplished and another work day is planned for this next Saturday, April 2nd 8:30 am.

All decals and keys have been mailed to those of you who have paid-in-full. Our Harbormaster has announced that trailers may be taken to the upper storage area beginning 4/1, but ALL MUST HAVE 2016 DECALS on the port side of the trailer – no exceptions. Dennis and Jenipher have put the 2016 decals on the docks so members with newly assigned slips should have no trouble finding where to put their boat. Boats are being launched as we speak. This wonderful weather will see boats in the water early this season.

So we are off to a great season at ECSC. See you all at the Mother’s Day Brunch on Sunday May 8th 11:30.

Membership dues should have been sent by now

Welcome to three new members since the last Tell Tales was published:

    • Doug and Fiona Becker of Indianapolis sailing an Ultimate 20. We understand this is a very special boat and many of our racers are anxious to see it.
    • Bryan and Rachel Ferry from Carmel. They have a Lightning and are in the process of buying another boat.
    • Welcome back to former members Michael and Debbie Tolley of Indianapolis sailing a Scaffie.

Membership will host several New Member Orientation sessions during the summer of 2016. The first will be Sunday April 17th at 1:00 when we will gather in the upper shelter. Come and meet with Christy to learn everything you need to know about being a member at ECSC. These sessions are open to all new members and any prospective members who are wanting to know about the club before joining or to anyone who may have any questions pertaining to the club

The deadline for mailing 2016 dues was Monday, 2/29/16 and we have heard from most of you. If you have not yet sent in your dues, please do so ASAP. If you find that you have not received your decals and keys by 3/15/16, please call 575-9837 or email membership@ecsail.org. Everyone is receiving a new ‘16’ key and this will effective around March 15th. We will have recycling boxes available in the upper shelter house and down by the race shed if you wish to recycle your former ECSC keys and/or any other keys you may wish to bring.

Before we know it, we will be at the club getting our boats ready to go in the water. YEAH! YEAH!

    Dues are due

All Annual Dues statements have been mailed. If you have not received yours, please contact us at membership@ecsail.org Please remember that your Annual Dues and paperwork must be postmarked no later than February 29, 2016. If your Dues and paperwork are not postmarked by February 29, 2016, you could lose your coveted wet slip and have to go to the end of the wait list.

FYI: As in prior years, checks will be deposited and processed within a few days after we receive them. The exception to this is the wet slip payment ($385) for members who did not hold a wet slip in 2015. Those checks and the Wet Slip Agreement will be held by the membership chairman until the Harbormaster has determined whether a wet slip is available, which will be sometime in March. Those checks will be cashed at that time. If a wet slip is not available, your check will be returned to you.

If for some reason, you prefer that your check not be cashed right away, please hold and mail your check and paperwork closer to the due date of 2/29/16.

The new keys that you receive in your Membership Kit will not be operational until all the cores on the locks are changed, which will occur in mid March. This will give time for all members to receive their new keys. So hold on to both for the time being. We will recycle the prior keys and will have bins in the upper shelter house and at the race shed for you to deposit any keys which are no longer of use. (Good chance to clean out your kitchen and dresser drawers as well as glove boxes).

    2016 Membership Changes

First of all, Happy New Year to everyone. Since our Last Tell Tales, we welcome another new member to our club – Lane Ely of Indianapolis sailing a Catalina 22. ECSC ends the year with 248 membership.

Christy Merriman will be the new Assistant Membership Chairman in 2016. I am looking forward to having her help. Bob Hickok has done a great job the last few years of fielding all inquiries regarding new memberships. He held three New Member Orientation sessions each year, met many new members at the club to show them around, did all the necessary paperwork involved when a new person joins our great club and did a great job in this capacity. Many thanks to Bob for all his hard work as Christy prepares along the same lines.

The ECSC Board made a decision at the last meeting to re-core all our locks and issue new keys to all members. So in the packet that you receive in February, you will have a new key marked with a ‘16’. This key will open the front gate, the ice machine and the power washer shed. There will be a place on the annual dues form for you to request any additional keys that you might want to the main gate or to any of the various storage sheds.

The annual dues statements will be mailed on 1/20/16. And as always, will be due on the last day of February, which this year is 2/29/16. It’s not too late to let me know if there’s been a change in your mailing address. Please send this information to membership@ecsail.org.
