    It’s that time for the GOVERNOR’S CUP REGATTA and LOBSTERFEST 9/14-15/2019!  T-shirts are only $15(price slashed).

    Next month will be ECSC’s 50th Anniversary Hornback Regatta and Chili Cookoff! “Where The Fast Start Last!”
    This event is free for members to race their boats and compete for the awards in a reverse handicap (pursuit) race format. Mark your calendar for October 12th and 13th. Charlie Brehob and Eileen Leonard and crew will be running the races like they have the last several years, and if you’re early over the line they will call you OCS.

    Which reminds me that the last race of the summer series ends October 2nd and with the ramp revamp put off until spring, there will be time for 4 extra PR Wednesday night races added to the calendar to take us through to November. First Warning Starting at 6:30pm on October 9,16,23,30. Pursuit Race format! PR WEDNESDAYs! SI’s will be posted.

    Welcome to four new members since our last TellTales was published.
    First we have William Powel and Cristina DePropero of Indianapolis sailing a Catalina 250.
    Krista Riley and her children Wilson, Sam and Jacob of Zionsville.
    We welcome returning members Barry and Linda Wilkins sailing an Ensenada 20.
    Marco and Vanessa Santiago of Avon sailing a Catalina 25.  This brings our total membership to 258.

    NEW POWER WASHER INSTALLED!  CHECK IT OUT!

    Wine-Down Dock Walk sponsored by the Eagle Creek Ladies’ Sailing Association was on Friday, September 13th.  6 – 8 pm.  It was great to see so many club members come out for this event. Thanks to all who came out and were our  Host-Boats!  Great snacks and beverages were had on our marina.

    Commodore August 2019

    I hope you attended the 50th Anniversary Celebration.  By all accounts, it was a great success.  Thanks to Vickie Greenough, Nick Mates and their entire crew for planning and pulling off this great event.  Special thanks to all who took pictures and posted them on our Facebook page.  The “Little Pirates Day” looked like it was a huge success.  Lots of pictures of our little pirates having a great time.

    The Remote Control Sailboat fleet held its first regatta during the 50th Celebration.  It looked like we had pretty good attendance for the first year.  Thanks to Rich Fox for organizing the fleet and serving as PRO for the first regatta.

    Our Junior Sailing team competed in the annual Jr. Bay Week Regatta.  In the Gold Fleet, Sam Riley finished 9th.  In the Silver Fleet, Grant Goff finished 10th, Deanna Nichols finished 14th, and Olivia DeGrella finished 16th.  Over the course of the week, they competed in 16 races with winds from 5 to 20 mph.  It was quite a grueling week!

    Our club racing program is entering the second half of the season.  We are now into our summer series and continue to see great participation on Wednesday evenings.  We have 3 regattas behind us with 3 more to go.  The next regatta is the Indy 200 on August 31.  This is a one-day regatta just for high-PHRF cabin cruiser boats.  It is a great event and a chance to sail with a purpose instead of just floating around.  If you ever thought about getting into the racing program, here is a great way to try it out and see if you like it.

    Upcoming social events:

    We have four more social events for the year.  The Labor Day cookout is on Saturday August 31.  Governor’s Cup & Lobster Fest is coming up on September 14.  The Chili Cookoff is on October 12. And the Final Bash is on November 2.  Please make plans to attend one or all of these events.

    The Ballroom dancing lessons was a huge hit.  Thanks to Tom Moore for coordinating this.  Tom says lessons will continue into September depending on attendance.  If you missed the first few, you can still attend and learn some new dances.  No experience necessary!

    Boat Ramp Update

    We finally have a complete set of engineering plans to submit for approval.  Approval can take up to two months.  We need approval from the City of Indianapolis, Citizen’s Energy, the Army Corps of Engineers and IDEM.  We are targeting the work to be performed in March of 2020.

    Dry-dock Storage

    Ki Hickok is working out a plan to get dry dock boats in their proper slips.  This will be a multi-year plan.  Please cooperate with Ki when he contacts you about moving your boat.  Keep in mind, we may need to move your boat to a temporary spot before we get you into your permanent spot.

    Full Moon Sail

    The next full moon is on August 15.  Why not go out for a moonlight sail?  Sailing at night is very peaceful and relaxing.  Just make sure your navigation lights are working.

    Social August 2019

    July was a very successful month of activities, despite the heat wave!  The pig roast on July 4th was a wonderful event as our members enjoyed roasted pull pork prepared by Phil Cottingham.  We quickly rolled into our 50th Anniversary week long celebration which also proved to be successful.  The Food Truck Friday in conjunction with the RC Regatta was a big hit!  We enjoyed pizza from NY Pizza food truck.  The beach party was catered by “Catering by Susan” out of Carmel and the chicken was roasted on site by Phil Cottingham.  Let’s just say, there were not many left overs!  The food was fantastic!  We also provided each member (one per number) a commemorative gift!  If you did not receive your gift, you may pick one up at any of the upcoming events.

     

    Still to come yet this season –

    Labor Day – SATURDAY – Aug 31st at 5:30pm. DJ will be playing into the evening hours – Great way to kick off the weekend!

    Lobster Fest – SATURDAY – September 14th at 6:00 – Live music – RSVP required

    Chili Cookoff – SATURDAY – Oct. 12th at 5:30 – Bring your chili to enter the contest or a side to share – Children’s games available.

    Final Bash – SATURDAY – Nov 2nd at 6:00 – RSVP required – stay tuned for more details!

     

    I am currently building my list of volunteers for the Lobster Fest.  If you have an interest in assisting with this event, please let me know!
